It’s been just over 1 month since I wrote my last blog post and during that month, I’ve been working lots and lots, on holiday a bit, spending time with my children, having great days out (Better Days out!!), entertaining friends, catching up with friends, reading good books and searching for a childminder (only very recently since mine informed me that she’s quitting childminding! Oh NO!). The weather has certainly changed, it’s COLD. Come on, I know August isn’t historically the hottest month in Britain, but at least we could have a few hot days. Not to be…
anyways, check out our new site design for RSOPA (Regnante School of Performing Arts) – really is the best dance school in Worthing, both my children go, one for ballet and musical theatre and one for break dancing. They love it. www.rsopa.co.uk

RSOPA - New Web Design by White Ochre Design
Only 1 more week till the kids are back in school. They are ready, I am ready and I bet the weather will pick up as soon as they are back. Arg!
The Mumpreneurs Networking Club will start back next week as well. Friday in Worthing at Lime cafe – book yourself in! www.agoodgossip.co.uk or email me at meg@whiteochre.co.uk if you want to know more or book in. I’m really looking forward to it!
It’s busy, it’s raining and I’m hungry! All for now, thanks for reading.

Last day of school today and it’s nearly time for me to take off all my hats apart from my mummy and family hat. I will be putting my White Ochre Design hat away for a week and will only be putting it on again for about 3 days a week during August. I am always reachable via email, thanks to my trusty BlackBerry, in case anyone needs to urgently contact me.
As for my Worthing Manager hat for The Mumpreneurs Networking Club, I suppose I’ll sort of be keeping that on as I will always be an embassador for working mums and mums in business so will always offer support and advice wherever I go and whatever hat I’m wearing (or not wearing). And even though the next networking event isn’t until September 3rd, I’ll be busy working on the goodgossip website and planning for the upcoming networking events.
Same goes for my Better Days Out hat – I am always taking mental notes for the website and photos to add to it, plus I will hopefully be adding lots of new listings to the website over the summer due to all the recommendations that will fload in – come on guys! Write in and tell me about a great place to take the kids. There is a great competition with awesome prizes (free days out for Notts and Argos prizes up for grabs too) so tell me about a place that’s great for the kids. I need a reccy for The National Space Centre, Hop Family Farm, any of the windmills that have open days in Sussex , plus any of the aquariums or zoos. Those are just some ideas, I’m sure there are lots more places you can write in about. Email meg@betterdaysout.co.uk
As for my writing hat, unfortunately I think I’ll have to take this off for a few months. Even though summer is quiet for my working hat, I still have all those jobs that need to be done in order to keep a business running. Tax return forms, marketing and promo work, filing and organising the mountains of paperwork in my office, business overview and forward planning, plus I’ll be preparing for The Business Mums Conference where I’ll not only be exhibiting but will also be helping to run the champagne and chocolate networking session with The Mumprenuers Networking Club (which is gonna be fab). I will try and sneak my writing hat back on periodically over the summer, thank goodness my laptop is working again, which means if I get inspired I can always work on another chapter or just jot notes down or record an anecdote to include in my book.
I’d better sign off now and get to it so I can seriously put on my mummy and family hat! Have a great summer everyone.

Moose Azim
Website re-design for Moose Azim photography. Take a look, the photos are amazing. www.mooseazim.com
It’s nearly the summer holidays so what do working mothers do with the children? Well, for me, this summer it’ll be fairly easy to keep my older two happy – WII/DVDs/Free holiday club/Garden/Lots of nice food – but not sure about the baby! He’s entering that clingy phase which is tricky and pulls on my heartsrings and drives me mad simultaneously. Good luck to me!
Lots going on at White Ochre Design so check back regularly!

We have recently updated the Peekaboo Communications website, originally designed and built by White Ochre Design just over 2 years ago for Melissa Talago, director of Peekaboo Coms. Peekaboo specialise in communications and marketing for the parenting sector – pregnancy, babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers, children and parents. Melissa and her team know what parents like, what they read, what concerns them and how to reach them because Peekaboo is run by mums. Unlike many PR companies, they actually consume the media they talk to. They are active members on parenting forums, they are mummy bloggers, tweeters and they chat to mums at the school gate, nursery drop off and coffee mornings. Peekaboo don’t just talk parenting, they live it.
With high-profile clients such as award winning Tots to Travel, Netmums, MamaBabyBliss and a new client Third Door – a company that provides flexible workspace with on-site childcare, Peekaboo is a leading PR company in the parenting sector.
Melissa Talago is not only queen of PR for the tums to tots sector, but she is also an award winning Mummy Blogger. Her blog is an interesting read, at times funny because we can relate to her stories and sometimes inspirational because many of her clients are business mums just like White Ochre Design.
So if you need help with a press release, a launch event, or are looking for a PR specialist for your parenting/baby business, then contact Peekaboo – email melissa@peekaboocoms.co.uk

I used to feel very ambiguous about networking. People say that networking is key to making those all important contacts and getting your business ‘out there’. However I never really believed it and after having tried a few different networking events without gaining any new leads or really useful contacts, I decided to just give up and put it down to experience. I figured my time was better spent actually working rather than meeting people who weren’t interested in me, what I do or how I could help them. I also found the networking events to be incredibly businessy (I would dress to impress and therefore feel uncomfortable and annoyed at my discomfort) and too formal and not to mention too expensive. Since I work from a home-office around my family life, I often felt embarrassed by this and as soon as I mentioned that I had young kids and worked flexible hours around them, it seemed people would tune out/switch off/look around for someone else to talk to. I got frustrated with this so eventually stopped going to them.
I then had the brilliant idea to hold a Family Friendly Networking event at my house during Business Mum Week last October 2009. This went down so well and was so well attended, my house was bursting at the seams! There was obviously a need for this type of business mum, mumpreneurs networking. It was thrilling – so many enterprising mums running their entrepreneurial businesses around a busy family life whilst providing their children with a strong role model and stable future. The feedback was phenomenal and I felt so proud of what I had acheived, not only for myself and my business, but for others who benefitted from the event as well.
Determined to keep this networking for mums in business alive in the Worthing area, I researched how I could get involved and ‘do my bit’ either by hosting more events or helping out others. I hooked up with Nicky and Sara, founders of The Mumpreneurs Networking Club and now I am the Worthing Area Manager for the networking club. We have our events at Lime Cafe in Worthing – they are friendly and informal and very well attended.
So, I have made a total U-turn with regards to networking. It’s definitely worth it so long as you find the right kind of networking group! For me, there’s no point in trying anything else.
